Don’t shake it off, shake it up!
Ya know the saying, “The only guarantees in life are death and taxes?” Well, I think there is a third guarantee, it’s called change. I don’t know if it’s my ADD personality, or my insatiable appetite to learn new things, but my life is in constant change. Shiny objects lure me away. Maybe that’s why I like portrait photography so much. I am always meeting new people, learning new techniques, and purchasing new equipment to master. Don’t get me started on scrapbook ideas!
Sometimes we have big huge change, hello new baby. Sometimes it is a minor swerve, not another new work schedule!? Our lives are constantly moving forward. I mean really, now instead of having to slop on some makeup and exchange my sweats for a pair of jeans to go to a mommy group, I can just turn on my computer and leave my snot filled shirt on.
There are 3 kinds of people when it comes to mixing it up. There is the “oh, hell no!”, “whatever, sounds like fun!”, and my category, “let me freak out first!” Where do you fall? Are you constantly reminiscing about the “good ‘ol days” or day dreaming about your next adventure? Are you like me, remembering the “good ‘ol days” of vomiting during a hangover (well, sometimes it was waaay before the hangover) which cycled straight into vomiting because you had an alien invading your body, and now thinking “my life is good!”?
Have you ever seen me when plans suddenly do a 180? I know the man can complain about it. I need a minute to freak out, literally, my type A needs a 60 second temper tantrum. Then all is good and we are happily doing a U-turn.
Change happens whether we want it to or not. We do get to choose how we deal with it. We have to show gratitude for the past, it’s what has shaped us (or perhaps killed some brain cells). Sure there were some awesome days, however even more awesome days await you. Embrace today! This moment! Tomorrow will undoubtedly be different. If you find yourself bored with life, try shakin’ it up, change something. It might be something big, it might be something small (why do you think my hair always changes?). Just grab its hand and frolic into the sunset.
Are you trying to slow down change or do you need some shakin’ up?
